Some call them laugh lines, others crow’s feet.
Crow’s feet are the little wrinkles (laugh lines) around the eyes. Laugh lines are wrinkles that appear at the sides of your eyes when squinting or laughing. These wrinkles are very sympathetic and start to appear at a young age. One speaks of crow’s feet (they actually look similar to crow’s feet) when these wrinkles appear not only when laughing but also when relaxed and then slowly get deeper with age.
Both substances, which have completely different effects, are suitable for treating crow’s feet. Botulinum toxin weakens the squinting muscles and relaxes mimicry. It also gives one a more rested appearance, a slight lifting of the eyebrows and lessens droopy eyelids. Because the weakened muscles regenerate after a few months, it is advised to maintain some continuity with botulinum toxin treatments.

Hyaluronic acid-based filler can certainly compliment a wrinkle treatment of crow’s feet. The gel pads depressions, hydrating the sub-fat tissue thereby stabilizing the area long-term. An additional hyaluronic acid-based filler treatment is highly recommended for those with advanced staged wrinkles. In addition, it stimulates growth of new collagen fibers long-term (Wiki) so that a one-time treatment can be especially impressive over time compared to the shorter-term results of botulinum toxin.
Squinting the eyes and raising the cheeks can lead to crow’s feet. Smoking and long exposure to the sun can especially contribute to these wrinkles early on.
Crow’s feet are easily treated with botulinum toxin. With only a few little needle pricks along the ring muscle of the eyes, movement is weakened and squinting is relaxed smoothing out the laugh lines. Sunbathing should be drastically reduced because sun damaged skin is much drier and more prone to wrinkles than healthier skin. However, if the wrinkles are advanced they can be supported with hyaluronic acid-based filler. With a dull Pix’l needle® the filler is distributed over a larger area under the wrinkles smoothing out the skin. Of course you can treat each wrinkle individually but the advantage to using a dull needle is that the entire area can be padded providing better results and more stability.
Due to the fact that the eye muscles are constantly in motion– more often than other regions of the face– this lessens the longevity of treatment. Only six to eight weeks at the beginning. However, after several treatments the time-span can extend to four months so that only three treatments a year are needed to achieve and maintain a long-term smoother eye area.
A crow’s feet treatment with botulinum toxin costs approximately 230 Euro in accordance with the GOÄ. Here is an overview of our botulinum toxin prices at Faceshop.
The treatment starts to take effect after 5-10 days. The maximum effect is achieved after 14 days. If necessary a follow-up appointment can be made shortly thereafter.
Generally speaking yes. However, very small bruises seldomly appear, but they can easily be covered up with concealer. Sometimes at the site of injection small welts may appear directly after treatment but they only last about 15 minutes.
Individual patients sometimes complain of headaches on the day of treatment and directly thereafter. However, in these cases large amounts of botulinum toxin have been likely administered to several areas.
